What is the most important thing to understand about being a good photographer?

“Personality. Photography is all about putting yourself into your images, being able to sell yourself and put yourself out there. Plus your work has to be creative visually.”

What is the one thing you wish you knew when you started taking photos/being a photography teacher?

“Teaching is sometimes more about paperwork and ‘the man’ and less about educating the students. You need to know how to secure yourself from any kind of fraud or legal issues. Also marketing and selling yourself.”
