What is the purpose of art in society?

Art plays a great role in society and people should stop talking down on artists that want to pursue their passions. Without art, there would be nothing. Buildings, posters, street signs, advertisements, movies, etc. are all art. Art gives life to this plain earth. Even nature is art. I could spend hours just watching the way trees move, or the way the sun rises and sets. Without art, we are nothing.
