Kalin,
Kalin was born in Las Vegas but throughout her life moved back and forth between Vegas and California. Moving frequently typically has quite the impact on most people but for Kalin this was a bit different. Her parents lived in two different states so every year she would go from Vegas to California. Making it extremely difficult for her to make friends as she was constantly reminded of the fact that she would have to leave them in the next couple of months. Through the interview we had been talking about where both of us had lived and both agreed that Vegas is such an awful place to raise a kid. She was saying, who thought it was a good idea to raise a family in a place literally called ‘Sin City Las Vegas’. She also was making points on how it’s so unsafe here compared to other places. And how it gets so hot during summer that kids can barely even go outside.
I had asked her a question about what place or state or house had the biggest impact on her, and her response to that was living in an apartment building in north Las Vegas when she was younger. She then told me a few stories about things that had happened while she lived there and I wouldn’t have doubted for a second that this would have a huge impact on who she is now and how she perceives certain things. The stories are a bit too personal for this but you could imagine the things that come with living in North Las Vegas, and the traumas as seeing some of those things as a child.
This last year covid had a huge impact on everyone but for Kalin this was one of the hardest years that she’s ever been through. With online school and moving, it was a lot and I took a lot of perseverance to get through the year.
In between moving and school she has a lot of hobbies. One of them includes playing guitar and writing. She also loves fashion and shopping online or in person takes up most of her time.
I really enjoyed interviewing Kalin I think she is a kind, interesting, and depthful person. This interview made me realize how similar we all are and I am very grateful for that.
